Wolters Kluwer Buys Skolar

April 5

Wolters Kluwer, the $3.4 billion information powerhouse based in The Netherlands, announced in late March its purchase of Skolar, an online provider of medical clinical data and distance learning.

WK sells tax and legal affairs data, business information, medical and scientific data, and print and online education services. Among the company's brands are Facts & Comparisons, Nelson Thornes, and Wolters-Noordhoff.

Skolar is a Stanfrod University spin-off that offers integrated searches across multiple, high-quality medical reference sources, and operates SKOLAR MD, the first online "physician initiated" in-context learning system.
