Software Sales to Increase!

March 18

Market researcher Gartner sees global software expenditures increasing 3.5% in 2003 to about $76 billion. In contrast, Gartner says growth from 2001 to 2002 fell by 0.7% (we know lots of software vendors whose sales fell further than that).

Joanne Correia, Gartner VP, says she sees "stabilized growth" ahead. The forecast assumes no marked geopolitical upheavals like an extended war in Iraq, and she believes that future software spends will focus on improving existing technology, like integrating systems that promise a quick ROI.

Gartner sees similarly modest growth for 2004 and 2005, or until "wireless starts pushing everyone to move to a new platform," said Correia.
